Entourage Mac Office 2001 Question

Is there a program to sync Entourage data from the desktop Application to my
Tungsten Handheld. I read in the Entourage Help that a handheld
synchronization application was available in the Value Pack but I can't
locate it to apply it.

The Entourage Conduit should be on your CD.

Thanks for the info. I downloaded the Entourage conduit program but I can't
seem to figure out just how to move my address book from the Entourage
desktop to the handheld (Palm Tungsten-E). The Conduit Manager comes up but
there are no instructions on how to select the address book to send it to
the handheld.

Are you familiar with how to synchronize your Tungsten? When you do, the
Entourage data will synch.

I use a Palm-branded device, so I'm not sure how the Tungsten differs. On
mine, I can configure the synchronization by using the Hotsync Manager
application, which should be installed somewhere nearby the Palm Desktop
software. Choose Conduit Settings from the Hotsync menu.

Installing the Entourage Conduit -- I think -- should have automatically
removed the competing Palm Conduits (addressbook, calendar, notes, tasks).
You control all four functions from the one Conduit.

For some reason the Entourage Conduit manager is not taking over to allow me
to transfer Entourage files to my handheld. Can't figure out why.

Are there any competing Conduits running? Is the Entourage Conduit set
to synchronize? What happens during synchronization...does it say
anything about the Entourage Conduit?

It seems as though the Entourage conduit never kicks in. It says nothing
about that conduit. In the conduit set-up there is no reference to the
Entourage conduit. Its in the hard-drive folder so I know I installed it
from the CD. Its sitting right next to the regular conduit manager in the
Palm folder. I looked in the system folder under extensions and the
Entourage Conduit is in there. During the hot sync process the only
available conduits are USB and Palm connect. Modem is unchecked and there
are no other choices. I even tried clicking on the Entourage Conduit in the
Palm folder and it only brought up the same Hot Sync Manager screen as
before.

The Entourage Conduit should be located in your Palm Application folder
(which on my computer is in Applications) in the Conduits folder. All your
other active Conduits, like Backup and Install should also be there.

The Entourage Conduit installer might've been confused if you have Conduits
in multiple places. Where else do you have them stored?

There is also an Entourage Conduit Settings file (which, on my computer, is
located in Documents > Palm > Users > Adam Bailey > Conduit Settings), but
that's just a Preference file.
During the hot sync process the only available conduits are USB and Palm
connect. Modem is unchecked and there are no other choices.

These are transports (used for communicating with the Palm), not conduits
(which actually synchronize data). To view your active Conduits, choose the
Hotsync Manager program (also in the Palm application folder) and choose
Conduit Settings from the Hotsync menu.

I'm about ready to give this thing up for the day. I ran Hot Sync Manager
and it gave me the same screen as the others did. No sign of Entourage
Conduit. Thanks anyway for trying to help.

Are you choosing Conduit Settings from the Hotsync menu? What Conduits
are listed?

All your problems are due to the fact that the version of the Entourage
conduit which is available online at MacTopia is the version for Entourage
X. You have the wrong conduit.

The conduit for Entourage 2001 is only in the Value Pack on the Office 2001
CD. First install the Value Pack from the CD. Then you'll find the Entourage
conduit. You also have to install the (Classic) Palm Desktop 2.6.x software
which you can get from Palm website if you don't have it already. Then
install the Entourage Conduit: the installer should disable the 4 Address
Book, Date Book, Todos and Memos conduits in the Hot Sync folder. But there
are still a couple, such as Installer conduit, that remain active, as well
as the Entourage conduit.

Yes, the only choices are internal modem, palm connect, and USB. The
"Settings" tab is grayed out.

have Palm Desktop 4.1 installed. Will that make a difference?

Yes. That's why nothing's working for you. PD 4.1 is for OS X only. You need
PD 2.6.x for OS 9. I'm sure it's still up on the Palm website somewhere.

Well I tried to download Palm Desktop 2.6.X as suggested in this newsgroup.
Before I installed it I tried emailed the PalmOne website to see if the
downloaded software would work with Entourage (Office for Mac 2001) instead
of the Palm 4.1 Desktop software. The rep told me not to use 2.6.X because
it was not compatible with my Tungsten-E. He told me I had to use the 4.1
software that came packaged with my handheld.

So I'm back to square one without ever being able to sync my Tungsten-E with
Entourage. Any other suggestions folks?
