Entourage magically putting my NEW, unopened emails in the DELETED folder

I recently upgraded my 2004 Office (mac) to 11.3.8 to sync up to my
iPhone. Since then, my emails come into entourage, but before I can
open them, they start disappearing into my deleted items folder. I
can't figure out what's going on? Any suggestions?

You must have a rule that is moving the message. The most likely culprit is
the Mailing List Manager (MLM). It's very easy to set up a MLM rule by
accident, when you are marking a message as 'not junk'. The wording of that
dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look
for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the incorrect destination folder
as the target folder. Mailing List Manager rules run before your other
rules.

I'm not the original poster, but had the same problem and your
suggestion fixed it. Just wanted to say thanks!

I have exactly the same issue but I have no rules set up!

I have over 2000 emails in the trash awaiting deletion, that I do NOT want deleted and indeed that I have never moved them to the deleted items folder.

If I move them out of the deleted items to the inbox as fast as I move them out the reappear...

Are you accessing the mailbox from any other locations and/or clients?

I was accessing my email in Pennsylvania while visiting family. Upon my return, there is no new email since Jan. 18, the day we left California.

A rectangle pops up with the message: "error 16001."

Anyone have an idea what might have happened? More importantly, how can I remedy this situation.

Currently, to access my email I use my "Safari" engine to go to AOL Mail and then can access my email. However, this is very inconvenient for many reasons. Help!

Can you tell me what kind of email account you're using?

Same issue here. No rules or filters. But this is only happening to my
accounts that are also accessed on a WinXP machine with Outlook
Express. Outlook Express on the Win machine works fine. All email
comes into inbox as it should and you can file read messages in
folders you create. Web interface of hotmail also works fine. But when
using entourage on the Mac, all new email goes to deleted items
folder. And if I click a folder that has read, saved messages, they
all start moving into the deleted items folder automatically. HUGE
PROBLEM. Then when I go back to the PC, these "updates" are then made
there. So there is something going on with Entourage on the Mac that
is screwing everything up.

HELP!

You must have a rule that is moving the message. The most likely culprit is

dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look
for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the incorrect destination folder
as the target folder. Mailing List Manager rules run before your other
rules.

There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)

Use the MLM for all lists. Use rules for the remainder. Try to use
categories instead of individual addresses when possible. When a new address
is added to a contact in the Address Book then it will automatically be
acted on by the rule if you use categories in your rules. See example:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/example/rule002.html>

1) POP Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the Inbox (On My
Computer), NOT when it arrives in any other folder. Once it's moved to
another folder it won't be seen by rules.

2) IMAP Rules are meant to act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in
the IMAP INBOX, not when moved to another IMAP folder.

3) Exchange Rules act on a message ONLY when it first arrives in the
Exchange Inbox.

See "Using Rules with Entourage" for help and examples:
