Entourage Major Problems

Hi,

I'm a recent switcher from Windows, used to using Outlook Express with
my hotmail account. I am starting to really regret the move because
Entourage seems not to be as useful or functional. Perhaps part of
the problem is that I'm running it under Rosetta because I have a
newer iMac. Here are a few problems I've come across so far...if you
have any suggestions, I'm all ears!:

1) a] Headers: Outlook express gives you the option to download the
entire email or just headers. Entourage seems to automatically
download the entire message regardless, which can take quite a while

1) b] During this download of emails, when downloading from the
"sent" folder, starts to download, and then stops suddenly, giving the
error message: "An unknown error (-50) occured."...Could not retrieve
mail; Account Name: Hotmail.

2) Often I'll send a message, and it will bounce back even though the
email address sent to is a confirmed working email address with plenty
of free space...This seems to happen randomly, especially when I'm
sending resumes out for some reason.

3) Sometimes, while downloading emails in a folder perhaps, Entourage
would stop responding and eventually have to be Force Quit.

4) Altogether slow and sluggish

I have updated to the lastest version of Office 2004. Any
suggestions??

Cheers!

What type of account is this? IMAP?

Entourage menu bar > Tools > Accounts > Edit Account > Options >
Partially receive messages over __ KB.

It seems Microsoft seems to make lots of changes to the Hotmail servers
than cause Entourage to be unable to properly connect from time to
time. The best you can do it just check again later in that case.

Entourage doesn't bounce messages - email servers do. This is not a
problem with Entourage, but the email server hosting the account to
which you are sending emails.
3) Sometimes, while downloading emails in a folder perhaps, Entourage
would stop responding and eventually have to be Force Quit.

That's not good. Without some network diagnosis during the problem,
it'll be hard to figure out what's going wrong or how to fix it,
unfortunately. You might try using a packet sniffing tool like tcpflow
to see what's being sent over the network at the time.
4) Altogether slow and sluggish

Rosetta is surely to blame here.

1) b] During this download of emails, when downloading from the
"sent" folder, starts to download, and then stops suddenly, giving the

From the Error Page:

Error -50

An unknown error (-50) occurred

One user found this solution: Run "Remove Office", then run Repair
Permissions. Install from your CD and apply all updates. Restart and then
run Repair Permissions again.

3) Sometimes, while downloading emails in a folder perhaps, Entourage
would stop responding and eventually have to be Force Quit.
This sounds like a corrupt message. When this happens, click on the Stop
button in the progress window. Look for the suspect message...usually spam.
There are options to do this.

1. Use Online access to view your email through Entourage. Online access is
an option in Accounts under the Options tab.

2. Use your web browser to access your account. Find the email...usually one
of the older ones and delete it.

3. Use tcpflow to monitor the traffic. You can often tell exactly the
subject of the problem email as the log will stop on the problem message.

Test your network with tcpflow. See directions here:

I see that your other questions have been answered. For other new to Mac and
