Entourage Message Web Links

Steve

Am new to Entourage. When I used Outlook and typed in a web address,
it automatically became a link (in other words, the viewer could click
on it and their brower would open and it would go to that site). But,
in Entourage, it doesn't do that. How do I turn this feature on in
Entourage so a site automatically becomes a link? Thanks

There is currently no way of inserting a live hyperlink into an Entourage
message, at least no convenient or straightforward way. You can always
insert the URL, with the http:// prefix, and most email clients should
automatically convert them to active hyperlinks.

An alternative, if you are using Entourage 2004, would be to use Word 2004
to compose your email message, since you can easily create hyperlinks in
that program (select some text, then hit Cmd+K). If Entourage is configured
as your default email client, you can, when you're done, go to File>Send
To>Mail Recipient (as HTML) (this is still in Word, by the way). The
downside to this method is that once the document has been passed on to
Entourage, you can no longer modify it, or add attachments to it.

Yet another alternative would be to use Paul Berkowitz's free AppleScript
Make Hyperlinks X, which you can download here:
http://scriptbuilders.net/files/makehyperlinksx2.2.1.html

You should let Microsoft know that you'd like to see this feature at some
point; click on Help>Send Feedback on Entourage and, well, send your
feedback.

Note that in the latest builds of Entourage X and 2004, HTML messages with
URLs in the body do automatically have the appropriate <a> link tag included
to indicate that it is indeed a link and should be clickable on the
receiving end.

If you choose to save the message as a draft and then look at the message in
the Preview Pane in the Drafts folder, you should see the link as clickable
regardless of whether it is an HTML message or not.

You can open URLs in new messages by Command-clicking them.

Mickey are either of these versions of Entourage available yet so I can
do this? (Or maybe I am misunderstanding what you're telling me.)
Also, to Michel if I download Applescript, does it automatcially
interface with Entourage in a way which makes a hyperlink or is there
something I must do past the download when I type in a URL? Thanks.

Instructions on how to use the AppleScript can be found in the readme file
that is part of the Make Hyperlinks file.

Yes. You can get the latest updates (11.2.4 for 2004 or 10.1.6 for X) here:
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx>

If you are composing a message with HTML format on (Format > HTML),
Entourage should recognize URLs you type in and add the <a> tag, which will
make them clickable on the receiving end. You can verify this yourself by
looking at your copy of the sent message. However, you can't add display
text for the link like you can with Paul's script.

when you say "add the <a> tag", what exactly do you mean? am kinda new
to computers in that regard. so i download the program (applescript)
then, when i type in a url in a message, do i actually type in "<a>" at
the end of it to make the conversion (in other words, whatr's an "a
tag")? if you could just be a little more specific so i understand,
i'd appreciate it!

You don't need to do anything special. All you need to do is type in or
paste the URL into a new message, and Entourage will do the rest. Entourage
writes the underlying HTML code of HTML messages, and adds the <a> tag
automatically, which indicates that the link should be clickable.

If you use the AppleScript, read the included instructions. It's quite
user-friendly.
