Entourage my 2 cents

Two things about Entourage that I can not on the life of me figure out why
it hasn't been made more customizable are address book and custom views

I think it would be better to have specified contacts divided into groups vs
all in the addressbook where its difficult to find. Sure you can specify a
category but then you have to bounce back and forth when you need to find
someone and some contacts would have to have several categories which again
I dislike.

Other address books provide individual areas for specified contacts

Custom view is this a joke ?

Let me give you an example:
lets say I want to create a custom address book view

I'd like Birthdays to display everyone's birthday in today's month - oh I
can't do that apparently address book view is completely useless and it only
allows you to see things as they are per the input in the contact card.

So for birthdays you'd have to make a custom view for every month and every
day of the month WTF

I know what you are thinking (use categories)

the thing I do not like about categories is in order to create rules, custom
views, etc each contact would have to have several categories which looks
messy in the address book I'd like categories to be for one thing only vs
many.

You'd think these mail apps would have a clue as to how to make the user's
experience more productive

That's my 2 cents - whats yours ?

What's this bounce back and forth? I can't see anything about bouncing,
more specifically the term has no meaning to me in the context of
contacts.

I usually enter name details in the search field above the list. Makes
it easy to find a contact.

I agree, it treats date fields as text when used as criteria for custom
views. I think the difficulty is that birthday is actually the date of
birth, so mine, for example, would be in the year 1967. Also, you don't
have to enter a full date.

Birthdays are better off as events displayed in the calendar. You can
then have a custom view for birthdays that are in the next month.
Unfortunately to get the birthday into the calendar is a manual process
for each contact. You have to use the menu to the right of the birthday
field to add it to the calendar. It should really be a check box, which
defaults to being checked if a birthday is entered.
