Entourage no longer saving password

Daniel Imbeau

Hi,

On one of my accounts, Entourage does not seem to be able to save my
password anymore. It has been working fine up to last week. Each time I want
to get my mail for this account, it keeps asking me for my password.
Clicking on the save password checkbox has no effect. I tried checking the
"save password" check box in the accounts window. Everything seems fine when
I click ok to accept the passeword, but as soon as I reopen the window, the
password is gone and the checkbox is empty. The password does not seem to
get recorded in the keychain either (it is not there).

This is strange since, my other account works just fine. Both are POP
servers.

Any idea?

This is probably due to a corrupt entry in the system keychain - it happens
from time to time.

Open the keychain and find the entry relating to that account and delete it.
Next time you save the password from entourage it should stick.

I had tried it, there is no longer any entry for that account in the
keychain, and the symptom is still there. The other entries pertain to other
accounts or web forms. Is there a pref file that I could just delete or
something like this? Or should I just start a new keychain?

Thanks!

Before you trash the keychain, try running Keychain First Aid - it's
available from the 'keychain access' menu when you open the keychain.

Hi,

I finally found a solution. I had run keychain First Aid, with no help.

I used a clone of my hard disk, and I added manually to the keychain the pop
server address and password of the account that Entourage did not want to
save. The next time I asked for my mail, Entourage seemed to find the new
entry and asked me to use this information whenever I wanted to connect to
this account. Very strange: Entourage would not do it by itself (add it to
the keychain), but was able to go there to find the information. I did the
same on my Mac hard disk (since it worked with the clone), and everything is
fine now.

Voilà!
