Entourage not populating addresses from Exchange server

Erik Madsen

Hi,

I have a client that I set up on Entourage X with Exchange server.
Everyone else in the office uses Outlook for Windows.

My client is receiving emails OK, but he says his address book does
not contain any of the company addresses in his address book
(apprently he has personal addresses in there, but not the
company-wide addresses).

He says there should be about 30 or 40 company addresses in there.

Does anyone know why this might be happening, that these addresses
might not be displaying?

Thanks
Erik

Please post response, as this email address goes nowhere now... :)

It sounds like he wants access to the GAL: global address list. It should be
available in Tools:Directory Services. There's more info on this in
Entourage Help. Search for "global address list"

Now here's a question: The Entourage mail help says "The Exchange
Global Address List contains all user and distribution list e-mail
addresses in your organization. When you address a message, Entourage
automatically searches the Global Address List for the correct e-mail
address. You can also search the Global Address List without creating
an e-mail message."

This implies that it should automatically be searching the global
address list for the correct address. So is this something that has
to be set up additionally, even after the initial Exchange account is
set up?

This is the only client I have running Exchange server, so I'm not
able to easily troubleshoot this on my own without going there....

thx

As long as you have the correct settings in the Directory tab of the
Exchange account, and as long as the Exchange account is the default account
on the directory service tab, then you can use the "Check Names" button when
addressing a message to look up entries in the GAL.

addressing a message to look up entries in the GAL.

Or, you can go to Entourage -> Mail & News Preferences, click the "Compose"
tab, check "Automatically check names when sending messages" and click OK.
Then you won't have to press the button each time.
