I am having similar problems on entourage - the spinning wheel will not go
away and it ha been hanging for 2 days, I cannot access anything on the Page
to even try to delete new emails as they may have been corrupted.
One new trick with Entourage 2004 is that you can start it up from default
settings - i.e. with Send & Receive All schedule OFF (Manual only) - by
holding down the Shift key at startup - like "Extensions Off" when starting
up your Mac. That allows Entourage to launch without crashing in situations
like this.
You could then turn off Preview Pane and peruse the server looking for
corrupt messages (If you have POP accounts, you'd do it by Allow Online
Access in the Options page of the account settings, then checking the server
icon now appearing in the Folders List and turn off Preview Pane. If IMAP,
Exchange or Hotmail just check your Inbox and folders affected by rules with
Preview Pane turned off.) Delete the message (which actually marks it for
Deletion form the server), connect to the server (Send & Receive All), and I
think you'll be OK.
You can also use webmail to check your messages and delete the ones that are
causing the problem.
I have tried the following things .
1. reset the computer on start up by pressing Alt whilst starting the computer
2. uninstalled the Old version - Reloaded Microsoft for Mac and downloaded
the update.
3. Rebuilt the database.
these still didn't work the ball just keep spinning.
I was reading one of your email and it said to rename the old Data files and
then reset up a new version of entourage. I did this and the new version is
working but...
The problem is that all my old email data is no longer available.
Can I just transfer the data file from the previous data into the new Data
system or is this also going to corrupt the system again.
You can't transfer data unless you can open the Identity. Try the solution
above of holding down the shift key when starting Entourage. You might have
to move the other Identities out of the folder temporarily so Entourage will
revert to launching the problem Identity.
