Entourage on mac with Exchange Server

B

brendan Mullen

I am having trouble setting up Entourage 10.1.4 (Mac) to
work with my Exchange 2000 server. I set up the new
Exchange Account but each time it says it can't find a
Free/Busy Server. If I proceed past this error message the
system goes ahead and accesses the Exchnage server and the
users email messages show up in his Entouage-Exchange
Profile. All hsi inbox, sent items and other mail folders
appear as normal.

The calendar does not sync up properly though. Sometime
you get a folder called Calendar with all the users
Appointments showing up as Mail messages. Other times
nothing.

Anybody got any idea what I ma doing wrong ?

Help is much appreciated

Yeah, you need the free/busy server address for that.

THe calendar and address book synching need the free/busy server to
work.
In order to get these functions webmail (OWA) needs to be enabled on the
Excahnge server. Try accessing:
http://<your exchange server>/exchange/<you>

If you can get your mail from there, then OWA is enabled.
The free/busy server should then be
<your exchange server>/public

Sometimes the server you access for e-mail is not the same as the one
you contact for webmail. As far as I understand, you have to use the
webmail server for free/busy.

Hello,

I thought I'd join your interesting discussion. Seems I have a similar
problem. I can retrieve mail, contacts and calendar...but the contacts and
calendar are listed as a regular email folder. Somehow, I would assume this
means I can access the information, but it is no automatically integrated
with Entourage calendar and address book?

Secondly, does it make a difference if the OWA is a secure server (https),
which requires login?

My guess would be that there is something wrong with your settings and
that Entourage considers these as IMAP folders. Are you sure the
Free/busy server is specified properly ???

Yep, you have to specify that in your settings (same pane where you
specify the free/busy server).

Apparently.

<my OWA server>/public

The free/busy server could be different from the main Exchange/OWA server.
In any case I don't see why it matters here. We should not be concentrating
on the free/busy server settings but instead the Exchange Server entry
(which is from where the Address Book/Calendar are populated), which should
match the domain used for OWA.

It sounds to me that it's also possible that the IMAP and Exchange (OWA)
servers are different. If all else fails, check with your administrator to
see if that's the case. If it is, see Note #15 for tips on getting around
this:
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/exchange_server.html#Anchor-exupnotes>

Another possibility posed on the Entourage Help Page is:
Another possibility is that you are using a virtual folder for OWA, for
example:

http://yourserver/somethingdifferent/ianm

instead of

http://yourserver/exchange/ianm

In that case you won't be able to access Exchange data in Entourage.

Indeed... that's the case for me (but the OWA server can be used for
IMAP because it redirects to the other one).

I'm not sure I'm following you here... As far as I know, the address
book and the calendar are populated from the OWA server. Are you sure
about this Mickey ???

If I set up the Exchange server properly but not the free/busy server, I
can get my mail, but I can't sync my address book and calendar. THis
seems to confirm my "hypothesis".

The Exchange server has to be used for the e-mail fro IMAP.
The OWA server could be different and has to match the server you can
access through webmail. That's the one you need for free/busy.

Indeed, hence the fact I mentioned that in order to be sure you have the
right server, you should be able to connect to it through webmail.

If all else fails, check with your administrator to

I've never had to do that (but it could be because my OWA server can
redirect).

Right.

I haven't seen the same in my Exchange accounts, but if that's the case for
you, then I understand what you mean. Sorry about the confusion. I'd just
never heard of this before.
The Exchange server has to be used for the e-mail fro IMAP.

Unless you use the "note 15" workaround. That allows one server to be
specified for regular Exchange functions (calendar/contact sync) and another
for retrieving mail from the Exchange account.

Right. Nice trick to know when the problem comes up :-\
