Entourage plug-in SDK

I know this question is probably a lot more technical than most on
this group, but does anyone have any idea whether or not there's an
SDK for writing Entourage plug-ins? Or is AppleScript the only way to
get anything accomplished? I'm looking to fire off a handler every
time a message is read in Entourage.
