Entourage preferences

For some reason, Entourage 2004 no longer saves my settings default
settings. When I launch Entourage, I would like to View Folders along
with message and the preview box. However, it only brings up the
messages and preview frame. I always have to manually check
View|Folder List. It used to be otherwise. I tried removing the plist
files and rebuilding them but that didn't work. I also reinstalled the
latest version of Entourage (11.2.3.) Nothing helps.

I am running Tiger.

This is on my office Mac, but my files are stored on the local disk.
Oddly, I have no such problem on my PowerBook (with the same version of
OS X.)

Is there a way I could edit the plist files to force the default that I
want?

I'm weighing in just to say that I have the same problem, but on my
PowerBook G4 as well as a iMac. I'm running all the latest OS. It is
extremely annoying. I came to this group specifically because of this.

Ditto. iBook G4 running Tiger. What is weird is that the problem just
started occurring out of the blue. Was fine -- folders were always displayed
when I started Entourage -- and now they never are...have to go to View and
turn them on every time.

Since I updated to the 11.2.3 update, none of my selections in any of
the preferences stays. Preferences, Auto-Correct, Mail Lists, Junk
Mail. No matter where I make a change or add an entry, it does not
stick, get added, is added and makes a difference, is changed at one
time and stays through the next restart. I'm constantly telling Junk
Mail that the same mail is OK, but it just doesn't seem to be sinking
in anywhere.

The 11.2.3 Update screwed a lot up and we'll never be the same since it
altered the database and we can't go back easily.

Basically consider yourself screwed if you updated to 11.2.3. If you
haven't updated, DON'T!!!!!!

It is 5 months later and we're up to version 11.2.5 and still living with
this problem.
There has to be a way to fix it!
Anybody out there know?

This is not a common problem.

The prefs stick for me, and for most users. Can you tell me which prefs you
have removed to try and resolve the problem?

Also, if you create a new identity in entourage, does that do the same?

Also, if you create a new system user account, does that do the same?

Also, what version of OS X and Office?

The answer to these questions will give us a clue as to where the problem is
occurring.

program. The "folders list" setting is retained.

administrator.
Also, what version of OS X and Office?

OS X 10.4.8, Entourage version 11.2.5.
The answer to these questions will give us a clue as to where the problem is
occurring.

The original post that you quoted mentioned removing the plist files - I
assume from your comments that you haven't done this? Given what you say
next, this is now a lower priority...

That indicates a problem in the database, rather than in the user files.
Although I haven't seen database corruption causing this sort of problem
before, it may be worth trying a rebuild. Hold down the option key when
starting entourage until you see the rebuild screen, then select the option
to rebuild the database. The rebuild can take some time. This may cure your
problem.

I meant a new login account ('user' in the system prefs). Given what you say
above, this is unlikely to help. Don't worry about it.

I have done a rebuild several times. It has no effect on this problem.

I have removed the plist files. It too has no effect.

Since my e-mail is on an IMAP server and my test account seems to work, it
sounds like a fix might be simply to create a new user account with identical
settings to the old account (called Main Identity.) I'll try that. If that
works, I could simply delete the old account.

It won't tell us why the problem occurred, but it might work. What do you
think?
