Entourage Problem - Please Help

Hello. I have an Entourage problem that I DESPERATELY need help with.

I was just working in Entourage (Office X version, with the new 10.1.6
Update installed on my G5 with OS 10.3.4) and the program suddenly
crashed for the first time ever. I restarted and when I opened
Entourage it gave me this message:

"this identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage"

So I researched it and ran the "Typical Rebuild", which gave me an
error of "compacting failed". Twice. So I then backed-up my old
database (it's big, 2.9gb) on an external hard-drive just in case, and
went with the "Advanced Rebuild," but the when I tried to open
Entourage after that, it said:

"this identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage"

Ok, back to square one. So I then started fresh, tossed my old database
(emptied the trash), and went with a brand new identity and tried to
import my old database, but couldn't figure that out. I then tried to
just change the name of my old database to "Database" and toss the new
one (I know this sounds dumb, but I was/am desperate), but no luck
there. I also tried to import the email into Mail.app (and then
transfer that email into a fresh version of Entourage), but to do so
requires me to open Entourage, which I can't do, since it just briongs
back the identity error.

So does anyone have any idea what I should do? I backup my emails
monthly, but lost A LOT in the past month, including some important
work emails I cannot get back.

Please help if you can.

Thanks.

Since the problem started after installing the Office 10.1.6 updater, you
need to determine if the problem is in your database or your user's folder.

Move your Identity folder to the desktop then open Entourage. Entourage will
create a new blank identity and should open without problems. If Entourage
will not open this indicates a bad install or corrupt preferences.

Also check to see if you have more than one Microsoft Database daemon in
your startup items. If you have more than one delete them all and Entourage
will create a new one when opened.
