Entourage Problems

I have just upgraded [sic] to the 17" MacBookPro and there seem to be
LOTS of unresolved software issues. Frustrating -- like it used to be
in the 90s! Anyway, in Entourage, when I try to change the color of
text, it causes the software to quit. Has anyone else encountered this
and does anyone know how to fix it? I've tried everything obvious,
like repairing disk permissions, rebuilding the database, etc.

Hi,

that's actually not an Intel Mac problem, nor is it strictly speaking a
Microsoft Office problem. The crash is caused by the latest QuickTime update
(7.1), and it only affects some machines. There is currently no workaround,
short of reinstalling the OS and not applying the 7.1 update. There will
most likely be a patch for QuickTime at some point, so you might want to
wait.

YES! I thought I was the only one!!

I'm a newbie Mac user (and even with the couple of bugs I've
encountered, it's still better than PC). Can I delete QuickTime &
resolve this? How long does it usually take for a patch to come out.
It was fine until I did an update one day and I've been having this
problem ever sense!

No, you cannot delete QuickTime, since it is an essential component of the
Macintosh operating system. What you *could* do is reinstall Mac OS X and
then not apply the QuickTime 7.1 update, but that's quite an effort to make,
and since you describe yourself as a newbie Mac user, you might be better
off waiting for a patch. I can't say how long it will take for the patch to
be released (if it is going to be released at all, that is); patches are
usually released more quickly if the functionality of several applications
is compromised, and I'm not sure which applications (other than Entourage)
are affected by this bug.
