Entourage problems

I hope that I can get some help on my problem.

I have been having some problems with entourage freezing with
"application not responding". Because of that I had to force quit
entourage and re-open every time that that happens. I also had a box
popping out asking whether to run for verification. I had 3 items. 1-
Main identity, 2- Main identity (backed up...) and 3- Main identity
(backed up...). Now, I wasn't sure what to do so once it verified the
main identity, I also ran the backed up main identity. Well, I tried,
the 2nd main identity when I tried, it freezed on me and I just force
quite the whole thing.
Now, I opened entourage and the Entourage Setup Assistant came out
(with the Welcome note and asking what I want to import) with the
background showing "Mail-Main identity (backed up 4-29-2006 10.42). I
do not see all my old mails, nor the addresses, notes, files, etc. I
am not sure how to get all my old files back. I left the Entourage
setup assistant hanging there hoping that someone will get back to me
on how to proceed with it because I can't close up entourage before
giving some instructions to the entourage setup assistant. And I do
not want to give the wrong instructions and loosing all my old e-mails
and information.

Help, please? Thanks a lot.

The files named "backed up" are created when you run the rebuild on your
database. It is not intended that you rebuild those files. They are a
safeguard in case the rebuild goes wonky.

Your description of Entourage opening to a new setup indicates it does not
find any of your identities. Did you perhaps move them from the Office 2004
Identities located in the Microsoft User Data folder? You need to get back
to your Main Identity. Quitting the setup assistant should not damage your
files as it is not working with an identity that you created.

See the Troubleshooting Page for help and post back here with more details
of what is happening to cause the freezing.

Thanks for your reply. I had to switch the identity and I got all my
data back!

I have another question. Now, every time that I open entourage I get
the "Office database is damaged" and it will ask me to quit all office
programs. I do that and the database utility box will come up asking
me if I want to verify the database and correct it. I did this last
night as well as rebuilding it. Which is why I find it weird that it
is asking me to do that again.

What can I do to get the database fixed?

Thanks a lot.

In case you did not know....the Office Notifications (Microsoft Database
daemon ) is an Office application. The app stays hidden and is easy to
overlook. Also check Startup items in System Preferences for multiple copies
of the Microsoft Database daemon. There should only be one. If you have
more, delete all and the next time you launch Entourage it will create a new
one. <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/daemon.html>

The "Verify database" has been known to give false reports. Some users have
had to uncheck this preference to stop the constant warnings. If you are not
experiencing any problems I would just turn off the "Verify database". I do
recommend that you run regular backups of your database. Use Tasks to set up
a reminder.

To see if the background verify option is giving a false report, try running
the Database Utility and having IT do a verify operation. If it gives you a
clean bill of health, you know you are safe in turning off the background
checking.
