Entourage problems

Recently loaded back/restored entourage from "This identity cannot be
opened with this version of Entourage" and installed all the recent
updates and all started working again. All seemed well except I lost
90days of info.

That aside, this morning, when I opened, my main database was gone
again, no error messages just gone with a nice fresh slate. I went in
to "switch Identies" and choose the back-up copy that was available.
Everything opened again, but everything I did for the last two days of
course is gone. Why is it doing this???

I had made a copy of the database in another file, so I copied it over
to the "MAIN" identity folder and deleted the brand new one, but every
time I switch idenity to this directory, it ignores the one I copied
there and creates another brand new "clean" copy and leaves my copies
one there.

Once again, looking forward to your "GREAT WISDOM" in this ongoing
saga.

First of all, quit Entourage, launch Activity Monitor and quit the Database
Daemon process. This background process maintains an invisible link with the
currently used database, so even if you move it, the Database Daemon will
keep using it until you force the Daemon to link it to the new identity by
restarting your Mac.

Now that you've quit the Database Daemon, move your backup copy into the
Office 2004 Identities folder. Next, launch Entourage, but while doing so,
hold down the Option (alt) key. That way, Database Utility will launch,
which is an application that can check and repair Entourage databases. Use
it to rebuild your main identity's database.

When you now launch Entourage, your old data should be back again, with only
some data from the past few days missing. I'm afraid that's the best you
will get, as there seem to be a few problems with your database (which the
Database Utility should have taken care of by now).

Did as you suggested, now i've lost my database altogether. Now
Entourage will not even open. It tells me it is being used by another
mac user etc...

Before it shut me out, I would copy the D.B. into the identies folder
and every time it would open a fresh D.B.

This is an entirely different issue that is not related to your original
problem. This message tells you that another user on your network is using
the same license key to run Office on his or her Mac, and since the Office
applications check the network for other instances of Office that are being
used, Entourage prevents you from using the same license simultaneously on
two different work stations.

This is a stand alone Mac Machine...all has worked well for the last
6mos. Just having back-to-back problems.

This happened a couple of days ago...Ya-all told me to install "all"
of the updates....which I did and all started working again, except I
lost
90 days of changes to the D.B. I posted again to see if easy fix. Now
completely locked out of "all" applications...(entourage,excel,word
etc...)

Just trying to get back to some simbolance of control.

It's a good idea to have backup before you start any troubleshooting fixes.

I would install the Apple Combo updater first to see if that will help. This
will overwrite base system files that Entourage uses that could be causing
some of your problems. It wouldn't hurt to use "Remove Office" and reinstall
Office from your CD and update. These two actions will make sure you have a
good install. Links for the combo at bottom of message

When Entourage rebuilds your database it creates a backup. Unless something
went wrong with the rebuild (that why I suggest backing up first)
there will be a copy of your Identity in your Identity folder in the
Microsoft User Data folder. Switch Identities and select the original
Identity.

You might need to download the combo updater from Apple and run it again
rather than using Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially
problem-causing files. Several users have reported this fixed some odd
problems they were having with Entourage. Combo updaters will install on the
same version as they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or do a clean install.
