Entourage prompting for keychain password at random intervals

Entourage 2004 Version 11.2.1
MAC OS X 10.4.1

I upgraded to MAC OS X 10.4.1 and Entourage 2004 a few months back. As
before, I had checked the "Save my password" box for my main POP email
account. Since the upgrade Entourage has started requesting my keychain
password at random intervals. It gets annoying after entering my password
several times a day.

Has anybody else seen this problem and know of a solution?

TIA

Try running Keychain First Aid. Go to Keychain Access
(/Applications/Utilities/), and then go to Keychain Access > Keychain First
Aid. Then, verify & repair your keychain to fix potential issues.

Open Keychain Access in your Applications/Utilities folder.

In the menu bar under Keychain Access select Keychain First
Aid. Run verify & repair your keychain to fix potential issues.

Thanx for the suggestion of using Keychain First Aid. It did correct some
issues and now verifies correct. However, this has not solved my original
problem.

Entourage is still popping up a dialog box asking me for my Keychain
password. In particular this happens when I put my machine to sleep and
awaken it again. It happens at other random times also.

You might try deleting the Account and enter the info again.

Is it asking for the account password or the keychain password?

As Diane had suggested, I have deleted the email account from the keychain
and saved I again. No change in behavior.

Barry, it is asking for the keychain password not the email account
password.

That's what I thought you meant. The solution Diane proposed will often fix
problems of entourage asking for an email account password over and over
again - keychain entries do sometimes get corrupted.

However, your issue is different - the keychain must be getting locked
somehow.

If you open 'Keychain Access' and select "Change settings for keychain
'Login'..." from the edit menu, there is an option there to lock after a
certain length of inactivity or after sleeping. Unselect both those options
and see if the problem goes away. If it does, but you want additional
security in the keychain, make sure the timeout set here is longer than the
frequency at which entourage checks for new mail.

Thanx a lot. That seems to have solved the problem. Now I will have to
experiment to see what length of inactivity is appropriate without causing
problems.

Again thanx a bunch
