I've seen similar performance issues occur if you're working with a folder
with many (hundreds or thousands of) items. So you might want to try
working with folders with fewer messages.
If you're using Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4), make sure that the "Microsoft User
Data" folder is excluded from Spotlight searches. Go to System Preferences,
and then open Spotlight preferences. Click the "Privacy" tab, and drag the
"Office X Identities" folder (located in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/)
into the list.
If you've recently deleted many messages from Entourage, it might pay to
rebuild your database. In Entourage X, first go to Entourage > Turn Off
Office Notifications. Now, quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage
holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose
to do a Typical Rebuild. If that does not fix the problem, repeat the
procedure, instead opting to do the Advanced Rebuild.
