entourage screw-up

I have been using entourage for e-mail for some time. I am using two
computers (an I-mac and a macbook) on trying to get into entourage on
the imac I got the following mesage " Entourage cannot access your
data. To Attempt to fix the problem, rebuild your database. Tried that
- -got a read/write error (- 40) Ended with message 'Rebuilding failed.
It is likely your database cannot be repaired." So... threw entourage
into trash. used the macbook as a hard drive and transfered new
entourage onto imac - -went through same messages. Threw out entire
microsoft office and using the macbook put in new office . Same thing
happens . entouage always says "cannot access data. by the way - the
entourage on the macbbok works fine although I haven't used it to
download mail trying to stave off previous problem. Does anyone have
any helpful hints????

Is Entourage perfectly up to date on both computers?? I would suyspect a
warning like that with a version not up to date since the database
format changed with some of the latest updates.

Try this: Quit Entourage.
Open: Microsoft User Data folder located in your Documents folder,
inside you'll find: Office X Identities, then you'll see the old
Database folder. Rename this folder, and run Entourage one more time.
You have to setup everything from beginning. Try to back up you data
more often, as Entourage crashes if the Database gets close to 4GB in
size.

Try a 'repair permissions' to ensure the permissions on th eprefs files are
correct, then check the permissions on the data files you copied over. It
may be that you don't have read/write permission on the copied files.
