Entourage sent items

Hello and I hope someone can assist me.
I am using Office X, Mac OS 10.3.9 on a Powerbook G4.
When I view my Sent items folder the listing of sent items includes a
large blank space at the top of the list. When I scroll down I can see
some sent items but only about half of the 407 items that are in the
folder. I am also experienceing crashes of Entourage whenever I try to
change the view or try to go into the greyed out items by using the
cursor key to go up one item at a time.

I really hope someone can help, I need to recover this data if possible
and to solve these application crashes.

Thanks in advance.

This sounds like database corruption.

Entourage X: Hold down the Option key and re-launch the application. In a
few seconds, you'll be greeted with a dialogue box asking if you want the
"Typical Rebuild" or the "Advanced Rebuild." Choose "Typical."

I would create a backup copy of your Identity before rebuilding. Entourage
will make a copy during the rebuild, but this will give you extra backup
incase something goes wrong during there build copy process.

Thank You Diane Ross,
I did as you suggested and it seems to have solved all of the apparent
problems. Can you tell me what might cause the corruption? Is it just
a consequence of time and use and the increasing size of the database?
Again, Thank You, your help is apreciated.

I'm glad your problem was fixed with the rebuild. Note however, that
rebuilds do not always work so creating backups of your Identity are
important. See the Backup Page for help.

All databases exhibit a level of data degradation over time.  Entourage¹s
database is similarly vulnerable. Regularly backing-up your Entourage
database is a smart idea.  You may want to create a task in Entourage that
reminds you to create back-ups of your database on a recurring basis.
