Entourage Setup For Exchange/Outlook Server

B

Bob Rodenburg

I would like to use Entourage to access my Exchange/Outlook server at
work, but the information requested under Account Setup are a bit
strange. I don't expect a lot of help from work (they hate Macs) so I'd
like to understand the info Entourage wants. For example, I've never
heard of an "Account ID" at work - what is that in the Exchange server
context? And under "Edit Account", for the e-mail address do I put
down my universal address
([email protected]) or some variation?

Thanks!

This would be whatever you use to log into the Exchange server on a Windows
machine when it asks for your user name.

That would be fine.

The account ID is probably just your network username. It's really
asking for your mailbox name but this is usually the same as your
username. I entered this and Entourage figured out the rest (Exchange
server, e-mail address, LDAP server, etc.) on its own. You have to
have the 10.1.4 update installed first though. This update adds an
"exchange" tab to the accounts window in Entourage.

If this doesn't work automatically you can find the mailbox name and
exchange server name in Outlook under tools/e-mail accounts/. The
LDAP server name I think you'd have to get from your IT department.

If you want to browse and print on a Windows network at work you'll
need to upgrade to Panther OS if you haven't already.

Good luck.

I have all the updates installed through 10.1.5, and i've got the
"Exchange" tab under "Accounts". When I enter in my network
username, password and domain, plus my mail server, and e-mail
address, it askes for an STMP server address, which I put in. Then the
process fails, saying it can't find an IMAP server. In Entourage, two
accounts have been created, one under the "Exchange" tab and one
under the "Mail" tab with a notation that this last one is an "(IMAP)"
account. What's going on? I wasn't asked for an LDAP server.

Thanks!
