Entourage Setup for Mac OSX

Can anyone help? I've tried Microsoft customer "service"
(?); I've tried my ISP; I've tried Apple . . . and no-one
seems able to solve a simple problem:

HOW DO I SET UP ENTOURAGE TO SEND & RECEIVE EMAIL ON MY
POWERBOOK G4?

I've got the correct outgoing/incoming server info; correct
username and password . . . even checked the box for "SMTP
authentication" but still get "bad login" error messages
when i try to send or receive.

If you can help you could email me at: [email protected]

Much appreciated,

Who is your connectivity provider? Who is your email provider? What are the
exact settings you have in place?

thanks adam,

CONNECTIVITY PROVIDER: Comcast

EMAIL PROVIDER: Register.com

SETTINGS: Incoming/Receiving server (POP3):
"mail.thevisionaryedge.biz"; Outgoing/Sending (SMTP):
"SMTP.comcast.net" (the address that Register.com suggested
("webmail.register.com") didn't work.

With "SMTP.comcast.net" I can now at least send email. But
I still cannot receive any. I suspect that the problem lies
with Register.com's server -- they probably require secure
server authentication. But when I check that box in
Entourage set up, it makes no difference. Perhaps I need to
change the port # for secure authentication?

I'm lost. If you can help, I'd be very grateful.

thanks

mail.thevisionaryedge.biz is actually just another name for
webmail.register.com. But you should almost always use your connectivity
ISP's SMTP server when sending email. Many will prevent you from using
another's.

Take a look at Register.com's (obnoxious flash-based) email instructions at
<http://www.registar.com/hostingtutorials.shtml>. They show just standard
POP3 and make a point of not enabling SPA. Make sure to log in with your
complete email address.

I was not able to see the answer to the question. I am trying t
connect to Comcast with a G4 Desktop unit funning 10.4.2 . I am tryin
to get Entourage to work. I can send mail , but I can not receiv
mail. I have my setting of mail.comcast.net for sending and I us
stmp.comcast.net for receiving. I have tried with secur
authentication activated.

Comcast claims that they only support 'Outlook Express' on an
platform. Any suggestions

I have the same setup with no problems. You say you can send mail (by far
the more complicated setup), but can't receive. To receive, all you need is
your account ID (what comes before the @ sign in your e-mail address), POP
server (as you have it, mail.comcast.net) and your password. No special
receiving options are needed (secure connection, POP override or special
password). I've found that the best setup for sending email is to set the
advanced sending options to SSL on, override SMTP port to 465 and set SMTP
server authentication on.

I'm just a recent convert to OS X from Windows, but doesn't this sound
more reasonable to you?:

POP3 server(the server on which you receive your email):
"mail.comcast.net".
SMTP server (the server which sends your email out) : "smtp.comcast.net"

If these are not correct, or if you get authentication errors, I
suggest that you contact Comcast Support to find out the correct server
addresses and necessary passwords.

The setting for receiving should be "smtp" not "stmp" as you wrote. Could be
just a typo in your message, but if not could be solution!
