Entourage shows mail on server but does not downloadPOP mail

I have Entourage 10.0.0 on a Mac Powerbook G4 running OS10.3.5. I have
several accounts from various servers, all configured for POP. For
several of them I have the account options set to "allow online access
(shows account in folder list).

I woke up this morning and suddenly Entourage does not fetch the mail
from the pop servers. It checks the mail on schedule, as it should,
but it displays the mail in the "online access" (that's the same thing
as IMAP, right?).

I had not made any changes when this behaviour started. Since then, I
have rebuilt the database, and tried trashing the plist and prefs
files. I created a new account for one of my accounts, without
selecting the "allow online access" option. Nothing worked.

I should confess my database is enormous (1.7 Gb). (Bonus question:
Any recommendations for archiving systems other than dragging folders
onto the desktop?)

I not want to restore my POP capabilities. Any idea how?

Figured it out!!

Something happened to the Rules, which resulted in all mail getting
tagged as read, told not to make a sound, and sent to a folder I never
look at. I've re-set my rules, and now all is right with the world
again.
