Entourage stops taking keyboard commands

Somewhat regularly Entourage will simply stop taking keyboard commands,
however the menus indicate that the input was received.

For example, in mail I hit command-T to mark a message as read. The
"Message" menu will highlight to indicate that Entourage received the
command, however the message does not get marked "read". Similar
behavior for all other keyboard commands I've tried, including delete.
However, the commands work fine when invoked from menus or icons.

Only remedy: quit and restart Entourage.

Anyone else encountered this and found another fix?

thanks

This has come up somewhat frequently. I notice it when Command-Enter no
longer sends email. Others have noted that when (the moon is full--or
INSERT QUIRK HERE) Command-V acts like Command-Enter and sends a message.

Killing the app always seems to fix it. It may be a complex problem because
mine happens VERY infrequently.

Be sure you don't have a system-wide key-combination that is confusing
matters. Otherwise, smile and restart Entourage. :)

I can see that behaviour as well. I usually leave Entourage running for
days, and occasionally, Cmd+W will not close the currently open window. The
File menu in the menu bar gets highlighted, but nothing happens. As you
said, restarting Entourage fixes the problem; it is annoying, nevertheless.

So what OS are people on?

Just upgraded to 10.4.5 and first time I've had the problem. Is it
related?

No, it happens occasionally to people on all OSs. MS are aware and are
investigating.

I'll add to the pile; I'm currently on 10.4.5, but I've seen this since
the start with Entourage 2004. Infrequent, about once a month, and
always the fix is to either quit Entourage, or restart the Mac (2.0 Ghz
G5 tower). I thought for awhile that it was QuicKeys, but I've turned
that off periodically and still the Command-R, etc. stops working.

Several people have reported this, and it seems quite intermittent and hard
to reproduce. I think it is something to do with Entourage forgetting the
main window's the key window. (Or not noticing it is, or something. I don't
know how Carbon works.)

Does Command-tabbing to a different app and then command-tabbing back to
Entourage help?

Cheers,

Chris

FWIW.... I've seen this in Entourage, and also occasionally in Firefox.
