Entourage stuck with beachball from Hades

B

Barbara Lindenberg

I have a email message in the outbox waiting to be sent which appears
to be corrupt because on launching, Entourage locks up with the
dreaded beachball and will allow me to do NOTHING. I have to force
quit and when I relaunch, it reverts to exactly the same situation. I
have tried trashing preferences and have rebuilt the database twice. I
cannot click on anything once Entourage is opened and I am at a loss
as to what to do. Please help!

Physically disconnect your computer from the internet, and then re-launch
Entourage. Does that help? If so, disable the Preview Pane (View ->
Preview Pane), select the message in the Outbox, press the Delete button,
locate the message in the Deleted Items folder, select it, and press the
Delete button.

You might also want to try pressing Command-period a few times right when
the main window appears to force the send to stop if you still don't have
any luck.

Did you try deleting both of these preference files?
HD/Users/<Your User>/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Entourage Preferences
HD/Users/<Your User>/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Entourage Settings (10)

If after deleting the corrupt Outbox message you find that Entourage still
crashes when you attempt receiving mail, follow these instructions I posted
yesterday:
-----------------
Recently, malformed junk mail has exploited a bug in Entourage's Junk Mail
Filter that causes the entire program to crash when Entourage attempts to
download and process the message. Microsoft has posted a fix at their web
site:
<http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=837065>

This a comment from David Cortright [MS] on this issue:
"I'm certain the bug will be fixed in Office 2004."

If you are crashing on receiving mail, it could be due to a corrupt
message on the server. Work through the steps on the "Crashes" page on The
Entourage Help Page.
