Entourage & Sync Services Not Working

I'm having trouble getting my Entourage information to sync with Sync
Services. It was working, but I turned it off (because I accidentally
deleted some of my data - and turned it off, while I was resetting my
information). But now, when I turn it on - nothing happens. I have
deleted all of the contacts in Entourage - and when I set up Sync
Services, I am selecting the option to replace all of my information in
Entourage with that in Sync Services. But nothing happens.

In the Activity Monitor, I can see that Sync Service and Microsoft Sync
are running. The only thing I can figure is that sometimes the
Microsoft Sync daemon is in red - saying that it is not responding -
but then that clears - and it appears to be running/responding.

I have deleted all of the Entourage preferences, including the sync
services preference file. I have rebuilt my database (multiple times
to clear everything out). I have even removed (using the Remove Office
tool) the Office software - and completely reinstalled it from scratch
- applying all of the new updates. And I have checked to make sure
that the mdimporter file is in the correct place - as has been
suggested in other forums in this group.

I'm not sure what else to do? Any suggestions would be welcome. The
only thing I haven't tried is anything having to do with deleting sync
services, and starting over again - because I'm afraid of losing my
information - and I don't want to have to rebuild all of that again.

Thoughts? I really need help with this at this point.

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. I called Microsoft but I've used my two
incidents and they won't help me unless I give them $45. Not yet -
anyway.

I don't know what the problem is. It kind of messes everything up. It
imports some things into Entourage and creates duplicate entries in
iCal. Fortunately I have backups that I can revert to.

Here are a couple of things to look for:

Applications that use Sync Services (3rd-party apps) I¹ve noticed
applications that sync can cause the Microsoft Sync to hang.
Size of Database file of course, the greater the number of contact, etc.,
the longer it will take (sorry to be so obvious, but you¹d be surprised how
many people don¹t know how big their database is)

The other option I have tried comes from the Entourage MVP site:
* Disable calendar syncing in Entourage
* Quit Entourage
* Quit iCal
* Delete:
~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.plist

* Next delete the contents of
~\library\application support\iCal
* Relaunch iCal
* Relaunch Entourage
* Enable calendar syncing in Entourage

The same thing happened to me recently, and performing these tasks
kick-started the Microsoft Sync Server.

There is also a known bug in iCal where the Entourage calendar doesn¹t show
up in week view switch to Month and back to week.
And a final note: let the sync process run without interruption. Sometimes,
when Activity Monitor reports a process as ³not responding², it is not
always hung. Give the Sync server time to run.

That being said, I have not had many other issues with Sync Services it
usually an almost instantaneous event.
