Entourage & Time Machine

hi!

Why is it when I am in Entourage and I hit the TIME MACHINE icon. I don't see the normal time machine view, but rather it just opens a finder window?

Does this only work for Apple written applications?

Thanks!

No, why would you expect to see Entourage with anything to do with Time
Machine.

See these two articles on how to use Entourage with Time Machine.

Entourage and Time Machine (creates chronological backup of Identity can be
used by both Tiger and Leopard)

hi,

thanks for the info. I think I will switch back to Mail as it is super convenient to search and restore emails that were accidentally deleted.

Doesn't sound like it would be very easy to do using these alternatives.

It's too bad that you cannot use Time Machine and Entourage as you can with other applications. I was starting to like the new version of entourage but this backup/restore issue is a deal breaker for me.

Thanks again!

When I launch Time Machine from the dock while in Entourage, it behaves as
it does in any other application. It switches me to the finder, shows the
front Window, then shows all the backup windows behind it. The full display
takes a couple of seconds on a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro.

Are you saying that when you launch Time Machine while in Entourage, it
doesn't get to the third step of showing the backup windows?

No,

What I am saying is unlike MAIL, which shows you the mail apps going into the past, entourage just loads up a finder window. It looks like an all or nothing type of restore.

Is that correct?

Yeppers, that's correct. Entourage stores everything in a single
database file whereas Mail stores messages individually.

I'd love to see Microsoft switch Entourage to a hybrid of individual
E-mail storage paired with an external database that would keep the same
search and sorting functionality.

Hope this helps!

This is interesting. I archived my tasks and then deleted them but
later decided I wanted them back. So I went to a Time Machine backup
prior to the archive (.rge file) and restored and I got the current
version. I kept going back but with the same results. Maybe this
explains it. I'm not sure whether to call Microsoft or Apple (I have
been meaning to as I wasn't sure what was going on). Fortunately I run
both Retrospect and Databackup Pro and can retrieve a back in time
backup from either of these.
