Entourage updates address book contact with another contact's info

I just imported my Outlook contacts into Entourage (via .csv import).
I notice that when I modify one Entourage contact, it writes over data
with another contact's data. For example: I go and update Contact #1's
mobile phone number and save it.
Then when I go to update Contact #2, I find that oftendata from
Contact #1 (such as address) has been written into Contact #2. How do
I stop/prevent this? I am saving changes before I switch to a
different address book entry.

This is a heinous bug in Entourage; I and others have noticed and reported
it. It happens only (in my experience) if you use the Previou/Next buttons
or keystrokes to bring up the next contact to edit. If you do, the data
from Contact #1 will overwrite Contact #2, which you've just brought up. If
instead you close the contact window once you've finished with Contact #1,
pick Contact #2 from the Address Book window, and open a new window in which
to edit, the problem doesn't occur.

I trashed a chunk of my address book this way before I discovered the bug,
scrolling through my contacts to correct minor problems after an import. I
ended up with Contact #1's address information pasted into the next several
dozen records. I'm surprised this hasn't been addressed in any of the
patches, as it's IMO the biggest bug in the product right now.

This could be a sign of database corruption. Try rebuilding the database.

In Entourage 2004, you must launch the Microsoft Database Utility.
1. Launch Entourage, holding down the ³Option² key. Or, launch the
Database Utility separately; it is located in HD/Applications/Microsoft
Office 2004/Office/.
2. If you are prompted, allow the Database Utility to quit open Office
applications.
3. Once the Database Utility is open, select your identity from the list at
the top.
4. Click the ³Rebuild Database² button, and click ³Continue.²

In Entourage X, first go to Entourage > Turn Off Office Notifications. Now,
quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage holding down the Option key.
When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a Typical Rebuild. If
that does not fix the problem, repeat the procedure, instead opting to do
the Advanced Rebuild.
