Entourage v.x doesn't start after 10.3.9 upgrade

I have two machines running OS X and Office v.X. Recently, I upgraded
one of them to 10.3.9. Immediately, Entourage stopped working. When I
click on it, it displays the splash screen and then freezes. The menu
bar is displayed, but the dreaded beach ball spins and spins. The
console log shows a few messages about deprecated calls, but doesn't
report any major problems. I have to "Force Quit" to shut it down.
I've kept my other machine at 10.3.8 until I solve this problem. Any
ideas?

This is probably a font conflict or corruption. Fire up the 'Font Book'
application and disable all the older versions of the fonts that have nore
than one version available. See if that helps.

A little more information might help...The last message I see in the
console when Entourage is starting is:

'deprecated call' notifications are nothing to worry about. That is just a
note to the developers that the routine they had been using has been
superseded. Their routine is still available, but is liable to disappear in
a future OS upgrade.

To try and cure the failure to start, can you try the following:

1. turn off Office notifications and quit all office apps.
2. Move the 'Office 2004 Identities' folder out of the 'Microsoft User
Data' folder onto the desktop
3. Log out of the system, and then back in again.
4. see if entourage starts up now. If it does, you should get a brand new
database containing only the MS Welcome message.

I moved the Office X Identities onto the desktop, logged out, and
logged in, and restarted Entourage. Unfortunately, I got the same
result as before - spinning beach ball and a "forced quit" to correct
it. I checked the system log and did not see any new error messages.

I did that same upgrade yesterday, with the same results. Have you had
any luck resolving this?

Any more ideas on this problem? Is Microsoft working on a fix? I'm
getting really used to using Thunderbird instead....
