Entourage v.X has never been able to launch

I installed Office X on my iBook in Dec 2003 right after I bought the
computer. The first time I tried to run Entourage, I got the error
message, "Entourage cannot access your data. To attempt to fix the
problem, rebuild your database." When I tried the Typical Rebuild, I
got the error message, "Compacting failed. The end of file was
reached." The same error message appeared for the Advanced Rebuild.
Back then, I didn't think I had any use for Entourage so I didn't
worry about it, but now I need Entourage to interface with another
application. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and have
installed all the updates from the mactopia.com website, but I still
have the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?

My environment:
iBook G4 800MHz
Mac OS X 10.3.5
384MB RAM
13.8GB free disk space

Thanks!

First, log out, and log in holding down the Shift key until the computer has
finished login. Then go to /Users/<Your User>/Documents/Microsoft User
Data/, and delete the "Office X Identities" folder. Empty the Trash and
re-launch Entourage.

Thank you very much Mr. Stevens! This solved the problem with
Entourage I wrote about and another annoying error message as well
("An error occurred loading the Microsoft Framework Library"). I'm
kind of curious why this was the solution, but I'm definitely not
complaining.

I have the same problem, but have been using Entourage X for a couple
of years. Starting yesterday, I started to have problems with list of
messages in the in box - some didn't show and only had lines. Then I
got a message saying that there was an error. I had to force quit.
Same problem. Restarted the computer. Same problem, closed all
Microsoft Office programs and tried to start Entourage - got a message
about unable to access data base, then it quit. Now it quits
immediately upon the splash screen starting and can't even start with
the option key down - though I do get the rebuild screen, a sceond
later Entourage quits again.

If I delete my Office X Identities, will I lose all the information
(my in box and everything else that I have including all my folders
and my address book)? If so, is there a way around this? I did a
back-up around 2 weeks ago, but have a considerable number of messages
that I have since then, some of which are very important.

Thaks for this info. I am using
Ti PowerBook 1 GHz
OS10.2.8
Office X
