Please help if you can... I can't access a single email in any of my
folders anymore! Yes, most are work related. Approx a week ago, I
rec'd an email, but when I clicked in the blank area (?) it should
have been in, I rec'd the message "Could not open that feature. Mail
error" then it quits. Then my main 'Inbox' was completely empy, but
others were not. I created a new 'Inbox #2' and diverted the mail
into it. As of today, ALL my folders are empty, and when clicking on
any of them, I get the same message above. I can still send mail
though?!? Can anyone offer help? I can't lose my messages, and I
don't know if I buy the latest version 2004, will it transfer all my
old emails? Please help if you can, I'm just have no idea what to do
and of course phone tech help isn't available anymore? :( Thank you!

You don't mention what kind of account you are using.Sounds like it might be
exchange.

Your symptoms sound like database corruption. See these directions on how to
rebuild your database.

If your database is hosed then Entourage 2004 would not be able to import
them.

the message read: 'Compacting Failed. The end of file was
reached". ???

I have 9 main folders for email, each one of them has sub folders, and
I can't read any of them now?

I switched identities too, and could see all the folders there, but I
no longer use them.

This is killing me!

Any other suggestions are welcome. :)

The file that has reached it's end is often the preferences file. Move the
'Microsoft' folder out of your local preferences folder and try again. If
this fails, end of file means the file is too corrupted to rebuild.

I'm not sure what you are seeing when you switch Identities. You cannot see
folders inside Identities in the Switch Identity box. Perhaps you are seeing
other Identities. Can you take a screen shot and send it to me off list?

Under 'Accounts' they both (I have two accounts; one with Earthlink
and one with Hughes) say POP...?

The file that has reached it's end is often the preferences file. Move the

I removed the folder 'Microsoft' under Libraries - Pref, and tried the
'rebuild' again, but 2300 into the 26000 somethings, I got the same
message.

Why would this just stop? What would have corrupted it so badly after
cruising along without any problems?

Should I buy the 2004 version upgrade?

Will I ever see my emails again?

I didn't explain the folders well though. I don't see them under
Identites. Sorry. I used to have to switch Identities to view the
emails from our web site, but I've switched to a new ISP and we set it
up so I don't have to anymore. They all come into my main identity
now. (Can't see any of those either) After playing around with one of
the other identities, I was able to see a folder again? Can't click
on anything though.

Any other suggestions, or do you like to think of this as a
challenge? :) Thank you again for your time! I so appreciate it!!

POP and IMAP are two protocols that mail programs use to access mail stored
on remote computers. A POP account downloads mail to your local computer by
default. IMAP works by keeping mail on the server.

I doubt it was just one thing that caused the corruption.

Entourage 2004 is still being supported by Microsoft. Entourage X is end of
life software. It was not upgraded for daylight saving time which can be a
major issue for many users.

No.

Since you can't click on anything for an Identity that you can open, it
makes me suspicious that your have system wide problems. I suggest you apply
the latest Apple combo updater to see if that will help. Combo updaters will
install on the same version as they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or do a
clean install.

There isn't much else you can do except work on stabilizing your OS and
getting whatever version of Entourage that you decide to use set up in a new
Identity.
