Entourage will not launch

S

Sockeye

I use a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 867, OS 10.3.2, Microsoft Office X.
I am unable to start Entourage X. First indication of trouble was
when email messages in my email inbox became hidden, then error
messages began to appear when I dragged the mouse curser over the
email messages in my inbox, then several weird things started to
happen with the scroll bar and folders. Then, Entourage quit totally,
and when I tried to relaunch, a window appeared with the message, "The
application Microsoft Entourage has unexpectidly quit". I dragged the
Entourage application to the trash, and I reinstalled Entourage from
the Install CD; nevertheless, I keep getting the same message that
"The application Microsoft Entourage has unexpectidly quit". I
reinstalled Entourage several times, and each time I receive the same
"... unexpectedly quit ..." message. I am totally unable to launch
Entourage. How do I get Entourage up and running? How do I find and
eliminate the apparent corrupt file that I presume is the root of the
problem. I ran Disk Warrior, with no success in fixing the problem.
Thank you.

It might help you to take a look at the the website in my email address.

Trashing the Entourage application file is totally the wrong approach - it
probably made things worse since all the preferences stuck around, and so
did the the old installation.

All you may need (or may have needed before you went and did that) was a
database rebuild. Hold down Option key when launching Entourage. Possibly a
Typical Rebuild will be sufficient, so you can try that but I doubt it: I
think you'll need an Advanced Rebuild. so do that next if Typical doesn't
fix it.

An Advanced Rebuild may solve your problem. If not, get out your Office X CD
and install Remove Office from the Value Pack installer. You'll find it on
your desktop. Run it. (It won't touch your data.) Then empty the Trash. Then
install all of Office X (unless you have the standalone Entourage, of
course). Then ** install these updaters that you can get from the MacTopia
website, in this order:

Office 10.1.2 Updater
Office 10.1.4 Updater
Office 10.1.5 Updater

(If you already have Entourage 10.1.1 on the CD, then start with 10.1.4. If
your CD is 10.1.4, never mind, or do just 10.1.5). If you had never updated
before, and there's any problem at all, do another Advanced Rebuild - it's
better in 10.1.4.

If the first rebuild works, but you have an earlier version than 10.1.4,
don't use Remover, but do use the updates.
