Entourage will not open

I started having trouble when I tried to create a new profile in Entourage. After creating the new profile I would get an error message stating the profile could not be opened and Entourage would close again. In an attempt to fix this I re-installed Office 2008. Now entourage gives me a error message stating it can not open the profile in this version. Also Opening word or excell etg. an error message pops up stating there is a problem with the database and to use the database utillity to "fix" it. The database utillity says it is fixed and profiles are backed up, but the database error persists. Any suggestions?

First, let's get some terminology correct so we don't have any
miscommunications.

Entourage creates an Identity. I'm assuming this is what you mean by
profile.

An identity is a complete personality of Entourage, containing (preferences,
account settings. A User is a term used by the Mac OS. The terms Identity
and User are often confused. Entourage stores your data in an Identity, and
the Mac OS creates Users.

Your identity is named "Main" by default. It is located in the Microsoft
User Data folder.

1. Move the Microsoft User Data folder from your Documents folder to the
desktop and let Entourage create a new one, but before opening Entourage,
you need to update Office to 12.1.1. This will take care of the error "This
Identity Cannot Be Opened With This Version of Entourage".

2. Once Entourage opens and you are sure your other Office applications are
loading correctly, you can drag from the MUD folder on the desktop your Main
Identity, replacing the new blank Identity. Entourage should then open in
with all your old mail.

3. Check the old Microsoft User Data folder for data you might want to move
over like your Entourage Script Menu Folder the Normal file.

Let me know if you continue to have problems.

I have a similar problem. I work with Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac on System 10.5.3 and, after a power failure, I no longer can get Entourage started. This message appeared: "This identity can not be opened with this version of Entourage." There also was an error message that the database was damaged. With the database utility I have repaired the database. But that unfortunately did not solve the problem. I also reinstalled Office, but that didn't help either. Does anyone know a solution?

I just posted a reply. Please follow those directions. In addition, "This
identity can not be opened with this version of Entourage" indicates you
need to upgrade Entourage.

In the future do not add a "me too" please start your own thread. Thanks!

thank you, but neither 12.1.1 will acknowledge the upgrade to Office 2008.
Right now, I have no way of accessing any of my emails saved for over a year.
I have original 2004, upgrade 2008 CDs and have not emptied trash on
anything. All other Office apps work well.

Where is your original question? Adding a me to is not the way to get help.
