Entourage with OWA Blank Message

V

vermillionit

We have a SBS2003 running Exchange. We have a mix of MAC and PC
clients. The problem we are having is when Outlook Web Access users
send an email to Entourage recipients, the body of the email is blank.
If the recipients access their Web Access Outlook, the text is visible.
This seems to isolated just to this combination. Outlook Web Access
senders to Outlook or MAC mail is fine, just Entourage recipients.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!

A recent Microsoft patch introduced a bug in OWA, and my guess is that this
is what you're seeing. Have a look at this thread to find out more
(including a workaround):

Problem viewing HTML in Entourage

According to MVP Paul Robichaux, Microsoft is aware of the bug and is
working on a fix.

Yes, it's a rather long URL, so it might be that Entourage breaks it at some
point. Here's the TinyURL version that will take you straight to the thread
I was talking about: <http://tinyurl.com/rutaq>.

Can't follow the thread? Can you post again? Thanks for the info!!!

Does anyone have some definitive work-around to the "blank" message in
Entourage message problem we have been experiencing since a recent update to
our Exchange server? This problem appears to be related to messages that
were replied to or forward from a user using OWA Premium running on an
Exchange updated with Microsoft's recent Exchange update for Vista users.

I have not found a way to work-around the display problem on the Entourage
client side if it is set up for a Exchange connection.

We have a clustered Exchange server environment here and Systems does not
want to uninstall the recent update improperly and cause greater problems.
Ideally Microsoft needs to issue an update to the update to fix this
improper messaging HTML code (<HEAD> w/o </HEAD>).

This is most frustrating because the problem is occurring because the
Entourage developers ACTUALLY followed the HTML standards whereas OWA and
Outlook make assumptions when an ending tag does not appear and another
contradicting tag is encountered.

Since OWA and Outlook are programmed to "wink" at missing ending HTML tags,
it would seem that the Entourage developers might as well change Entourage
to accept sloppy HTML code as well for consistency!

Any creative or otherwise work-around would be appreciated.

I am informed that Microsoft is working on an Exchange server patch to fix
the problem of mal-formed HTML email generated when an OWA premium user
replies or forwards mail and may release it soon. However, does anyone with
connections to the Macintosh Business Unit know if Entourage's browser
engine is also being updated to better handle such mal-formed HTML code to
prevent this problem on the client side.

More importantly UNLESS Entourage is updated, messages already received will
ALWAYS be displayed as blank regardless of the Exchange fix. It would be
great for PR if Microsoft could fix the problem on both ends - Exchange
server AND Entourage client.
