I have a Mac G4 laptop (400 MHz) running system X.3.2 and Entourage
10.1.4. I can access my mail using both Entourage and server-based
software. In the last two weeks, the following situation has arisen three
times: the Entourage program will not download mail from the server. I can
see several mail messages on the server using the server-based mail
program (Webmail) but they won't download. On the other hand, I can send
mail from Entourage that will go and has been received by others (and I can
send it to myself).
Entourage is connected enough to send mail, but not enough to receive it.
The first time this happened, I went to Tools: Accounts and created a new
account with the correct info and then deleted the old mail-account file.
That time this worked. The second two times, this would not work. Although
I recreated the account file and deleted the old one, it still would not
download mail off the server.
The second time, I completely reinstalled Office (including Entourage) and
then it worked again. I could see mail on Webmail and it downloaded into
Entourage and then it would be gone from Webmail when I hit "update".
That's how it is supposed to work.
But after only one day, the program has returned to its semi-operative
condition. I can send mail, but the new mail messages waiting on the server
that can be seen on Webmail do not download into Entourage.
I've also tried restarting and trashing the preferences to no effect.
This is loony!! Anyone got a clue?
