All, I have searched the forums under search queries I think would lead me to the right answer. Unfortunately, I have had no luck. So here's my problem.

I have just installed MS Office 2008. Amongst a few problems (yes, that's right), I cannot get Entourage to launch at all. I get a prompt that says "You don't have sufficient permissions to view the content of this folder." I am signed on the the admin account so I'm not sure what else to do! Please help!!

When you installed Office, were you logging in as admin? Have you checked
the permissions on the Office folder to see what the are?

Get Info on my Office 2008 folder show:

System Read & Write
Admin Read & Write
Everyone Read only

As admin you should be able to click on the lock icon to change to the
correct permissions.

Hi Diane. I tried a tip I read from another post on here. I created a new account to test Entourage and see if it'll open up in another account -- it did!! So what I did is I copied the Office 2008 Identities from the new account into my original account and that did the trick.

When I did the Get Info as you had instructed, the identity says "(unknown)" instead of "System" -- any idea if this will be bad in the long run and any ideas on the fix it? I tried unlocking to correct/change this but I wasn't able to. Thank you for your help!

When you say new account...was that a new account in Entourage or in System
Preferences?

Since you aren't going to be using it, I wouldn't worry. Did you get
everything moved over that you needed?

I think so. Everything is working fine right now. I copied the following folders over: "Entourage Script Menu Items" and "Office 2008 Identities". IIRC, those were the only 2 folders available. Should I check for anything else?

There should be other folders unless you deleted them. To see what you
should have, Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts.
Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Open
Entourage and it will create a new Microsoft User Data folder.

This is what I have listed. I believe I removed all my custom folders. If
your new User isn't showing these, then we need to look at a reinstall of
Office.

Entourage Script Menu Items
Entourage Sound Sets
Entourage Temp
Excel Script Menu Items
Import Mappings
Microsoft Messenger Data
Normal
Office 2008 AutoRecovery
Office 2008 Identities
PowerPoint Script Menu Items
Printing Forms
Saved Attachments
Word Script Menu Items

Follow these steps to reinstall:

* Launch the Microsoft Autoupdater (MAU).To launch MAU, you can open any
Office application and select "Check for Updates" under Help in the Menu
bar. Once MAU is launched, select "Keep in Dock"
* Quit all Microsoft applications (Easy way: log out/in with Shift key down
to disable any startup items.) Be sure all applications are quit before
running updater. IMPORTANT
* Drag the Microsoft Office 2008 folder to the Trash.
* Empty Trash.
* Reinstall Office 2008 from your original installation disk.
* Restart
* Update to 12.1.0 (if you have a newer DVD you might only need the 12.1.5)
* Restart (restarting before you launch any app is important!)
* Update to 12.1.5
* Restart

Note: the AutoUpdater was replaced in the first updater so that should
already be updated. If you used "Remove Office" you would need to download
and install the Microsoft Auto Updater (MAU) for a complete re-install.

The Office 2008 MAU is now hidden away.
