Entourage Won't Launch

I am a mac user with a 17" powerbook running the latest version of
Tiger OS X. When I launch Entourage from Office 2004 (suddenly
yesterday morning) it freezes, and the error reporting application
launches and freezes as well. I tried the steps of removing pref files
and fonts, etc. I also reinstalled Office 2004 and did all of the
upgrades. I also tried creating a new account on my computer and
launching as the new user. Still the same problem. I also used Disk
Warrior and repaired permissions.

The rest of the office apps work fine. I can't "option" launch either.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try rebuild database:
Hold down Option key while it starts.

One more thing:

My brother has Entourage, too. Twice, he had a similar predicament. The
issue was that a corrupt file that started downloading when Ent
launched, and "she" kicked back right away. The remedy was to access the
mail account via a web interface and remove suspicious mails.

Thanks for the ideas,

I did try the option start method, it does not go into the process long
enough to use that method. I will look into removing the emails from
the server.

I did resolve the problem. It did not work until I reinstalled OSX and
Office 2004, I also used DiskWarrior Twice, and then I could access the
entourage database and rebuild, before the previous steps, launching
entrourage was not possible.

If you find messages that will crash Entourage, esp. the latest version of
Entourage, we'd like to know. If you can get the source of the message
(e.g., the .msg file) into a .zip file or some such to give to us, and can
tell us what OS you're running, we'd love to try and make things not crash.
:)

Note: This is not a message validating service; we won't necessarily tell
you whether we've fixed it or not -- it's possible we've already addressed
your particular problem in a version that is not-yet-released.

I have found that any file with embedded HTML is still a problem. The
program now launches, but if I click on an email with html or if there
is one waiting on the server to be downloaded by entrourage, it will
freeze the program.

I could send you a file if you wish, where should I send it?

If the problem reproduces with any message with embedded HTML, then it's
unlikely that its the message itself which is causing the problem.

It might be an issue of browser plugins conflicting with Entourage's HTML
rendering, and unfortunately, that's not my area of expertise. Perhaps you
have a new(ish) plugin somewhere under /Library/Internet Plug-Ins?
