Entourage won't receive email

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Email Client: pop

I get that " Entourage has encountered a problem and has to quit" message. Over and over again. Restarting didn't fix it. I can view mail online at Verizon, but it's not coming onto my desktop. Sending is OK.

Please phrase advice "for dummies."

Thanks.

Are you getting this message when you try to retrieve mail? If so, follow
the advice below.

Download and install the latest Office 2004 updates. In Office 2004, use
Microsoft AutoUpdate to get the latest updates. From any Office
application, go to Help > Check for Updates (or manually launch Microsoft
AutoUpdate from the Applications folder). If any updates are needed, they
will display in a sheet, at which point you can check them and press the
"Install" button to download and install them.

Updates can also be found at the Microsoft web site:
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/>

If that doesn't fix it, try going to the Verizon website and deleting any
junk mail messages. These may be preventing legitimate mail from being
downloaded properly.

If that doesn't fix it, try rebuilding the database. In Entourage 2004, you
must launch the Microsoft Database Utility.
1. Launch Entourage, holding down the ³Option² key. Or, launch the
Database Utility separately; it is located in HD/Applications/Microsoft
Office 2004/Office/.
2. If you are prompted, allow the Database Utility to quit open Office
applications.
3. Once the Database Utility is open, select your identity from the list at
the top.
4. Click the ³Rebuild Database² button, and click ³Continue.²

Exactly when are you receiving this error? What are you doing in Entourage
when it happens.

Quit Entourage and hold Shift key down when launching. This will disables
schedules. If you experience no problems with Entourage that don't involve
Schedules, you can try this fix for a corrupt email.

Thanks, it's OK now. Turned out it was a local Verizon glitch, fixed in a day. I told you for dummies! Sorry to bother you.
