I'm having the same problem, and I was hoping someone had idea(s) as to what's
going on.
SPECS: Entourage 2001 for Mac, part of complete Office install. All the latest
updates installed. Database rebuilt. SYSTEM rebuilt (I went so far as to
re-initialize my d**n hard disk and do a clean System install. Bondi Blue iMac
running OS 9.2.2. Printing to EITHER an Epson Stylus OR an HP Laserwriter.
I go to print certain messages and the Print dialog comes up, but the computer
freezes/hangs as it tries to display the small preview of the page; I have to
force-quit to escape (I can re-start Entourage normally after that, but will
invariably hang again on the same message). So far, this only seems to affect
messages coming FROM aol subscribers, and only in the last couple of months.
Before you post the default response, that is, copy/paste the text, or to
"reply" and print, I can't use that option -- this system is my father's, and
I can barely get him to retain the concept of HOW to print... interaction with
the clipboard and another app is too much. Besides, it's still a crappy
workaround. This SHOULDN'T be a problem.
Also, I've tried forwarding the message(s) to my system, and no probs
whatsoever.
I get the feeling that this is something involving HTML and some weird AOL
PC-to-Mac problem, but AOL says it's not their fault, and Microsoft is just
gonna tell me to upgrade to Office X... I doubt I can get OSX to run on a
233GHz iMac.
Does Entourage 2001 not have the "Print One Copy" menu item that bypasses
all the dialogs? It's far too many years now since I used 2001, so I've
forgotten.
I'm pretty sure people were able to print Entourage 2001 messages back
before OS X existed - and OE 5 before that. If this is a problem only with
messages from AOL yes, it's quite possible the problem is at their end. But
if it's only a problem for Entourage 2001 I can see why AOL don't care. If
some glitch in 2001 shares the responsibility, you're stuck. As I'm sure you
know, MS announced more than 2 years ago that they would not be updating
classic apps.
you seem to want a "magic" solution. I don't think that there's anything any
of us could suggest that would be easier than "Reply + Print". If that
really works, it's seems an excellent workaround. If that's really too
difficult for your father to remember (you're sure you're not demeaning him
here?) I don't think there's any hope of an easier solution than that.
