I have a an email that keeps crashing my receiving email. I deleted the original (non attachment file) but it sitll continues to download and the crashes when it comes to end. How I can I delete that file.

Can you access your account from a web browser? If so, log in and delete
the offending message from there.

What kind of account is this? Do you have an alternate method of accessing
it, such as webmail?

If not, make sure your Preview Pane is turned off (View menu) and download
the message and delete it. As long as you're not opening or previewing the
message, you shouldn't have trouble.
