Entourage X Intermittent Sending to SMTP Server

My father is using Entourage X on a G4 with OS 10.2.8 and has just
recently started having intermittent problems sending messages via his
ISP's (Comcast) SMTP server. Sometimes the message goes through just
fine. Other times, the message will get stuck in the Outbox. When he
double-clicks on a message stuck in Outbox, a dialog box appears
stating the message can't be displayed because it is being sent.
Sometimes, a stuck message will eventually get sent, but he has also
waited 30 minutes and a stuck message won't go. He sometimes sees
errors when he has the problem: 4362 - the action could not be
completed; and 5450 - [not sure what this error means].

He tried using Apple's mail client, and so far he hasn't had any
problems sending, but given the intermittent nature of the problem, the
send problems may yet occur.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Hi Dave:

Thanks for the URL, but actually that page is where I got the meaning
of the 4362 error; and the page doesn't mention 5450 that I can find.
The Entourage Help page is excellent, and I spent several hours looking
through it and trying various experiments before giving up and posting
about Dad's problem. He did try a typical database rebuild, but that
didn't help.

My Father's "send" problem has mysteriously stopped happening, so
perhaps the problem was with his ISP all along.
