Entourage X Stuck "Logging off smtp.comcast.net"

My Dad's Entourage X on his G4 has been working well with his Comcast
POP email account for many months, but yesterday it started acting
strangely. When he tries to Send/Receive, Entourage usually gets stuck
"logging off smtp.comcast.net", but it occasionaly gets through the
whole process. He tried rebuilding the Entourage database, deleting and
recreating his POP account, and repairing disk permissions. Entourage X
on his laptop works just fine, so the problem is not Comcast.

Has anyone seen this problem before? Does he have to remove Entourage
and reinstall? He is using OS 10.2.8.

TO me, it looksmore like an SMTP issue than a problem with the Entourage
database or preference file.
You could try changing some of the options for the SMTP
(quthentication...).
Has anyone seen this problem before? Does he have to remove Entourage
and reinstall? He is using OS 10.2.8.

I've never had that before, but there are many many flavors of SMTP
servers out there :-|
