I just purchased Office:Mac 2004 and installed it on my G4 PowerBook. I
would like to transfer my data from Entourage X on a Cube to the Entourage
2004 on my PowerBook. I am connect through a network and tried to
import the identity into the 2004. I receive a message that it failed with
Error (-54) Occured and Error (2) Occured.

Anybody have any suggestions.

You don't need to import. Just copy over your Microsoft User Data folder.

I had this same trouble today. Here's what I done:

1) Killed the Microsoft Database Daemon (the X one and the 2004 one)

2) MOVED over the 'Microsoft User Data' from my AUTOMOUNTED,
**NETWORKED**, mac os x 10.3.4 server, Home directory to the
/Users/Shared folder

3) Ran the import selecting import from application, import from
office X and then browsed for the identity folder
(/Users/Shared/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities)

4) Ran the import, it worked, no error -54 or 2 and it created a new
Microsoft User Data folder in my ~/Documents/ folder just fine.

If I have to do this for all of my users I will NOT be upgrading to
Office 2004 on our 3 sites. IF this is the case, and office 2004 does
STILL not play nice with networked home directories (even after the MS
tech support team told me they were working to fix various network
home bugs like the mail merge issue) then I'm seriously going to look
into openoffice

comments please
