Entourage X toolbar button problem

Michel HERRSCHER

Hello,
As I am not a MacExpert, so I ask this community for an idea or a way...

One of my friend have a Powerbook 12' with Tiger (upgraded from Panther
sevral weeks ago) and Office X. All applications work perfectly.... except
Entourage since 3 days.

1) At launch time, Entourage says "Mail Error, the action has not completed"
without any error code. After closing this message box, Entourage starts
normally... Where / How can I have more detail on this error.

2) When one clicks on any toolbar buttons ( new or reply, delete etc ...) ,
the click looks like accepted but no action is done.
If one uses the menu option or the shortcut it works fine.
This appears only in Entourage. Excel, Word PPT works fine with buttons.
Same for others applications ( Mac or foreign)

3) Can I reinstall only Entourage from the original media without loosing
all mail/ calendar/ Contacts data; ( Hoping it solves

Thanks in advance

Hi there,
I'm not sure if the problems you're describing are related, but here are a
couple of suggestions. I would have replied in French, but the problem is, I
don't have a French version of Entourage, so I couldn't have told you the
exact French menu shortcuts or translations for Entourage's functions.
1) At launch time, Entourage says "Mail Error, the action has not completed"
without any error code. After closing this message box, Entourage starts
normally... Where / How can I have more detail on this error.

When starting up, Entourage loads the database and it runs schedules set to
run when Entourage starts up. See if holding down the Shift key when
starting Entourage makes the message disappear. If it does, then there's a
problem with one/some of the schedules. Go to Tools>Schedules and see which
ones are configured to run at startup. Deactivate them and see if that
solves the problem.

However, you might also experience a corrupted database. In that case, hold
down the alt key when you start Entourage. You'll get a dialogue box, where
you should choose "Typical Rebuild". See if that solves the problem.

There might also be a problem with your friend's email account. What email
account is it, POP, IMAP, Exchange?
2) When one clicks on any toolbar buttons ( new or reply, delete etc ...) ,
the click looks like accepted but no action is done.
If one uses the menu option or the shortcut it works fine.
This appears only in Entourage. Excel, Word PPT works fine with buttons.
Same for others applications ( Mac or foreign)

If none of the above solutions was helpful, delete Entourage's preferences.
I don't think that this problem and the other one are connected, but you
never know. Quit Entourage and delete these files:

~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Entourage.plist

~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Entourage Preferences
3) Can I reinstall only Entourage from the original media without loosing
all mail/ calendar/ Contacts data; ( Hoping it solves

Yes, you can, and if none of the solutions I've suggested work, you probably
should. Entourage stores its data in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office
X Identities, and re-installing Office will not delete that folder. When you
remove Office, just make sure you use the uninstaller provided by Microsoft
which you can find on your Office v.X CD, in the Value Pack folder. Simply
deleting Office by dragging it into the trash will not delete ALL the files
Office has installed on your hard disk. So, use the Remove Office tool,
re-install Office, apply all the updates from Mactopia, and see if that
makes the problem go away.

If anything's not clear, feel free to post back; I hope some of this was
helpful!

Dans un message Michel Bintener disait :

Thanks for helping us;

for the French it is not a problem as the Mac + softs are in English
Version.

I'll try all that and come back if not completly satifying.

Many Thanks
