Entourage X via VPN to Exchange server

I can use Entourage, and browse the corporate Windows network, with no
problems when connected to the corporate LAN. My Windows file server
accounts work fine (though I still have not been able to print to
printers shared by Windows servers).

When I connected by PPTP VPN, at first I could not get anything to work
but ping. Now Entourage is connecting properly with the Exchange server
(IMAP) but I cannot access the corporate directory; I get an LDAP error
message when I try. I also cannot see servers in the corporate workgroup.

I wondered if turning on Active Directory in Directory Access might
help. When I clicked to configure it, the application ran for about 15
minutes with a rainbow beachball, going through a five step
configuration process. All seems OK until it reached Step 5, then it
quit with an error message that my admin account lacks sufficient
privileges.

Any hints on things to try so that I can access the Windows servers and
the corporate directory via VPN?

PowerBook 1.5 GHz G4, Tiger 10.4.1, Entourage X 10.1.6.

I have not yet found any compelling reasons to upgrade to Office 2004,
but I'm willing to do it if it will solve my VPN difficulties.

Hi,

If you're using the server name, try using it's internal IP address
instead.

Good luck!

Thanks.

I'm not sure which of the little changes I made helped, but I can now
access the corporate directory as well as my Exchange server IMAP
mailboxes whenever the VPN is active.

However I still cannot see Windows file servers on the corporate network
via VPN, though they show up just fine when I am connected to the
corporate LAN. I've posted a query on comp.sys.mac.system about that
one, but it can't hurt to ask again here. There should be a lot of
people here who are using VPN to connect to Windows networks.
