Entourage X with an Exchange Server

Ann

I configured Entourage to work with an exchange server.
When trying to access the account, I get the message "An
error occurred on the IMAP server".

How can I solve this problem?

Thanks, Anna

You need to provide us with more details.
This can only work if the Exchange server is at least an Exchange 2000
server with IMAP enabled. Are you sure it is the case ???

I too had this issue with my setup. Have your administrator enable
IMAP for your user account. I however am having issues sending mail.
Are there any additional settings that need to be enable with MSEx2000
to ensure mail can be sent?

This is the error I get when trying to send a test message to my .mac
address:
Error:
A message in your Outbox could not be sent using account "Brian
Exchange." The server did not recognize the recipients or the server
refuses to allow you to send mail.

Explanation:
5.7.1 Unable to relay for [email protected]

Any help?

I had this too until I talked to our Exchange admin and he said that mail
relaying to outside domains was turned off as per Microsoft to prohibit
hackers from sending spam from your domain.

He pointed me to a different SMTP server that relaying was turned on and I
was able to send mail again.

I too get the errors That the server couldnt be found and that an
error occurs on the IMAP server. (Errors 3170 and 3280). I am
running Exchange 2000 Server, SP2, on W2k Server, SP4. I have opened
the Exchange System Manager, and under
servers/(server)/Protocols/IMAP4/Default IMAP Server/ where the
protocol shows it's open and running at TCP 143 and SSL 993. I
started and stopped the server, too. I Looked in Active Directory
Users, went to my users, and under exchange advanced, protocols, IMAP4
was present and clicked to enable for mailbox and use protocol
defaults.
These users under MAC were fine before Office X, and running under
Outlook 2001 without problems.

I'm stuck.
Help!, please!

I'm not sure it is the same issue. THis is a problem sending mail.
Actually for people in a simimlar situation but without the possibility
to use an alternate SMTP server, you can turn your own Mac in a fairly
decent one... If prot 25 is not blocked on your machine, you can enable
sendmail or postfix and send all e-mails through "localhost" (your own
machine).

I recieve the same error...and it is (IMAP4) setup
correctly

Can you access your mailbox at all ?? Could it be that you get the error
message only as you are trying to send e-mails ??

Sorry to break in but that is exactly what occurs on mine. I have no
problem receiving email but consistently receive error 3260 stating a
connection failure when attempting to send them. The problem is not
associated with our Exchange server as my Outlook program works OK.

The fact that Exchange works with Outlook doesn't mean much since
Entourage and Outlook don't use the same protocol at all to access the
server. The "Connection error" makes me believe the setup is messed up
in Entourage.
EIther there is an error (wrong server, wrong method of
authentication... bad return address) or IMAP is simply not on on the
server.
