Entourage X won't import from Palm

Can anyone help me with this?

I have been using Palm Desktop as my
organiser. I want to import my settings, dates etc to Entourage. When I go
through the Entourage import process and select Palm Desktop to import from
it asks me to locate the palm user files manually. When I find them in the
open dialogue box, the palm user data files are greyed out and can't be
selected.

I use a 450Mhz G4 running buckets of RAM and OSX Panther. Entourage version
is Entourage X for Mac 10.1.4

Any suggestions?

Hi Paul!

Have you already downloaded and installed the Office 10.1.5 update? If
not, you can get it here
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/D
OWNLOAD/OFFICEX/OfficeX_1015.xml&secid=5&ssid=15&flgnosysreq=True>

Also, what version of Palm Desktop are you running? I would imagine it
needs to be at least 4.1.

Hope this helps! bill

Actually just the opposite. Entourage X only imports from PD 2.5. It never
supported newer versions. And anyway, the easiest way to "import" Palm data
into Entourage is to simply install the handheld sync conduit, and then
sync.

I actually ran into this same thing this weekend on my TiBook 867
running Panther with a gig'o'ram and Entourage v.X 10.1.4. I ended up
HotSync'ing from my Palm Tungsten E to get my contacts into Entourage
rather than importing from Palm Desktop. I did a dry run into a test
database at first, then proceeded to my main identity. This worked
well for my contacts, but my calendar lost all of the category
information. Thus, I haven't tried putting my calendar into my main
user, and probably won't until I figure it out. Any suggestions?

Bummer. I only use palm as a desktop program, and don't even have a
handheld! Looks like I'll be doing it all manually! Sheeeesh!

No, in that case you could get my shareware scripts "Export-Import Entourage
X" and read up on the "Other Programs" section at the end of the ReadMe.
That's what the "Other Converters" are for - they were basically designed to
import from Palm Desktop. The most recent update in fact fixed something in
the Calendar and Tasks scripts precisely fro PD. (PD's export files are
excessively clunky and freaky.) I strongly recommend that you open the
Calendar, Tasks, and Notes Tab & Return files in Excel and insert a Header
column at the top before continuing. It's all in the ReadMe.

PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - **2004**, X
or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions otherwise.

Thanks Paul. However having read all the instructions it seems almost as
much trouble as entering the data anew, and that option is $20US cheaper!

Cheers anyway
