I was havinf trouble upgradeing my system to Panther. There was some
kind of conflict somewhere. I made a copy of my library floder in OS
10.2 and then just installed 10.3. The problem is now I have lost all my
address' and saved email. Would it still be in the machine or is it gone?
I would really appreciate some help.
If you didn't save or copy your former user Documents folder, you've lost
it. The OS 10.3 installer allows you to "Upgrade" 10.2 - which would have
transferred everything. It also allows you to "Archive & Install" which
gives you a clean system but saves everything form your old system in
"Previous System" folder and also transfers all your User stuff to your user
folder in 10.3. It's a really great method, and that's what you should have
done. Too bad you didn't ask for advice before rather than after. If you did
an Archive & Install, you're in luck; if you did an Erase & Install without
saving Documents folder, you're out of luck.
For future reference - bearing in mind that Entourage is made by Microsoft
and is not part of the Mac OS - all your Entourage data is stored in the
Microsoft User Data folder in your OS X user's Documents folder. If you
still have this folder, move or copy it from wherever it is now (e.g.
"Documents" folder in the similar user folder of Previous System 1 folder if
you did an Archive & Install of OS 10.3) to the Documents folder of your OS
X user in Panther, replacing. It's a little more complicated if you need to
save new messages you've received and sent since upgrading. If that's the
case, don't do anything just yet - ask again how to do that and I (or
someone else) can explain how to merge both.
