Entourage

Using Mac OS 10.3.9 with Entourage 10.1.4.

When I receive a an email that is formated like a webpage (I assume
it's html coded) and I try forward it, the graphic formatting of the
original disappears and it's just text.

I have the prefs set to reply/forward message in the same format as
received.

Can you tell me why I have a problem forwarding emails formatted like
this?

auapplemac, if you want to know some of the technical detail surrounding
this, I'd recommend searching this newsgroup for items that contain "HTML
formatting/forwarding" or similar. This issue has been discussed at length
by some of the experts.

If I recall correctly, it has something to do with Entourage's HTML
rendering engine and OS X. Indeed, one would think that something this
basic should work flawlessly, and like many, my hope is that a future
upgrade to Entourage will fix it. But the experts here will posit that the
matter is more complicated than meets the eye...literally.

Meanwhile, the fix is fairly straightforward: Select the message, then from
the Message menu, select "Forward as attachment." This will enclose the
properly formatted HTML message as an attachment to a new email message that
you can send with confidence that the opened attachment will render
properly.

This is the only workaround I know of. Mildly inconvenient, but it does
work.

Except Entourage 10.1.4 does not have "Forward As Attachment" menu item,
Craig. That's a new feature in Entourage 2004 (11.0).

However you can do the same thing by clicking Forward with just a space or
one word selected, enter recipient, click the abab button to make it HTML,
remove the copied word, then DRAG the original message into the new Forward
to make it an attachment reply if that's how you have prefs set.

You don't really need to to all the HTML stuff, except this way the HTML
attachment will usually be seen inline by the recipient, as part of the
message, without having to open it separately.
