Hi! I have been surfing these groups all day trying to get microsoft
word to work on my mac (it suddenly wouldn't open any documents).
Finally, I came to a solution that worked! But NOW entourage refuses
to open. It gives me the message "could not open that feature. And
error has occured (-8796)"

I am running Office X for the mac. I have repaired disk permissions,
disabled most fonts, among other things. And I am about tapped out.
Please, if anyone has information to help me I would greatly
appreciate it!

First eliminate database corruption as the source of your problem. Create a
new Identity in Entourage. Does Entourage experience the problem in the new
Identity? If no, then the problem is in your database. If yes, then you need
to test Entourage in a new User. Go to System Preferences and create a new
User.

If the problem was your database, try rebuilding your database.

I also suggest that you run the Apple combo updater. Doing so overwrites
potentially problem-causing files. Several users have reported this fixed
some odd problems they were having with Entourage. Combo updaters will
install on the same version as they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or do a
clean install.

I tried rebuilding the database and installing OS 10.4010 Combo
updater. I still get the message "could not open that feature. An
error has occured (-8796)". This happens just on opening Entourage.
The menu opens up, but everything is blank. I can not do anything in
the program, it just keeps flashing that message.

Do I need to reinstall Entourage? I hate to do this, since I will
loose all my addresses, etc.

Reinstalling Entourage rarely fixes problems like this. Please try testing
your database as I suggested.

If you hold the Shift key down when opening Entourage, does it open?

FWIW, reinstalling does not delete your mail and addresses.
