Error 1401

I have Entourage 10.1.4 and Panther. I can receive mail from my
Hotmail account via Entourage, but I can't send anything. Below is the
error message that I get when I try to send something:

Mail could not be sent using the account "(name of account)"
HTTP error. Access to the resource has not been authorized. Error
1401.
_____________________

Any ideas?

Try the following if you have not already and see if this will allow you to
send.

Within Entourage....
1. Tools
2. Accounts
3. Double click the Hotmail account
4. Add @hotmail.com to the Account ID
5. Click ok
6. Close the Accounts window
7. Attempt to send a message

If this doesn't work try creating a new Mac user account and then setting up
Entourage with only the Hotmail account (in case you have other accounts
setup) and then see if you can send mail.

I have found that most of the 1401 errors have been an issue with the
Hotmail server.

Teresa:

Thank you so much for your advice. I tried both of your suggestions,
but alas, the problem persists. Well there is one change. It's now an
Error 1500, with this explanation: "HTTP error. The server cannot
fulfill the request."

I'm thinking the only answer might be a new address altogether.

Has this ever worked with this account?

You may want to try the following:

With Entourage closed locate and move the following files to the desktop:

<OS x startup disk>: users: <user name>: Library: Preferences:
com.microsoft.Entourage.plist
-and-
<OS x startup disk>: users: <user name>: Library: Preferences: Microsoft
folder

Then open Entourage and try sending and receiving.

If this doesn't work you may want to try another account and see if that
will work.
